The union of nature and sport
Extremadura has over 60 protected natural spaces and 1,500 kilometres of fresh water where you can enjoy nature and sports in the fresh open air.
Extremadura's nature will impress you. Because the region perfectly conserves its more than 60 protected natural spaces, where you can enjoy nature to the full. Furthermore, the variety of its landscape, where medium-sized mountains alternate with peneplane and depressions, offers a host of alternatives for practising the sport you like the best in the open air.
Extremadura is considered one of the most important regions in Europe in terms of birds and as a result is one of the most sought-after destinations among birdwatchers, who are drawn by the possibility of observing birds in extremely beautiful natural habitats and also enjoying the region's interesting historical and cultural heritage.
When you visit the Monfragüe National Park, which is also a must for ornithology enthusiasts, you won't want to tear your eyes away from the sky. Because black storks, Egyptian vultures, cinereous vultures and imperial eagles fly amongst the holm-oaks, gall-oaks and cork-oaks, as well as many other birds which nest in trees and rocks in this park and the surrounding area, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
Go hiking, mountain biking or running. Immerse yourself in nature and enjoy it to the full.
Extremadura is the region with the highest number of kilometres of inland freshwater coastline. A total of 1,500 km, fully prepared for you to spend a few luxurious days practising water sports or bathing. Playa de Orellana, which is the only freshwater beach in Spain to have a blue flag, is an ideal spot in which to go sailing, canoeing, waterskiing and fishing... The region also has more than 60 incomparably beautiful, singular bathing zones.
Other activities you can enjoy in the heart of nature are: ravining in the area of the Jerte Valley and La Vera; discovering the Villuercas-Ibores Jara Geopark, a region containing geological heritage of recognised value; discovering the magic and serenity of travelling by balloon in the International Tagus Natural Park…
To sum up - experience Extremadura in the most natural, sporting way.
