This castle in the province of Badajoz is of Templar origin but only a thirteen meter tower has survived to the present day, it is adjacent to the current town hall of Zahínos.
This emblematic fortress was built towards the end of the 15th century by don Juan de Alconchel and stands at the highest point of the town of Zahínos in Badajoz. It is very near to the border with Portugal and the province of Huelva. The current town grew around this military fortification, which also housed the parish church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios.
But very little is known about this historic settlement, only that it originated with the Templars. Not much of it remains to the present day, only the thirteen meter north-east tower, built of masonry and adjacent to the Town Hall. -
