La Organización Mundial del Turismo (OMT) celebra cada 27 de septiembre el Día Mundial del Turismo. Esta jornada pretende sensibilizar sobre el valor social, cultural, político y económico del turismo y mostrar cómo este sector puede contribuir a los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) de Naciones Unidas. En 2023, por iniciativa de la OMT, el lema es 'Turismo e inversiones verdes'.
Para conmemorar esta efeméride, la Consejería de Cultura, Turismo, Jóvenes y Deportes, a través de la Dirección General de Turismo, ha organizado un evento que tendrá lugar el sábado 30 de septiembre en la alcazaba de Badajoz. Estas actividades se hacen en colaboración con el Ayuntamiento de Badajoz.
