Its main auditorium with a seating capacity of 800, has been designed for business meetings and cultural events.
The 'Vegas Altas' Convention and Exhibition Centre, located in Villanueva de la Serena and open since 21st November 2017, turns this Badajoz town of 26,000 inhabitants into a business tourism destination and offers the areas of La Serena, Vegas Altas del Guadiana and La Siberia modern and functional facilities as a venue for business meetings and cultural events.
Its avant-garde design reminds us of an enormous bale of straw that merges harmoniously with the landscape. This building, which was designed by the architects Luis Pancorbo, José de Villar, Carlos Chacón and Inés Martín Robles, has three separate spaces: the garden and the public square, the convention centre-auditorium (below ground level) and the cube (above ground level), 'tied' with thick golden-colour ropes. Housed here are the Town Council offices, rehearsal rooms, as well as a cafeteria and restaurant with excellent views over the vast area of the La Serena and Las Vegas.
The main auditorium, with a seating capacity of 800, has been designed as a multi-purpose venue (congresses, conferences, workshops, theatre, concerts, etc.) and has an area of 726 m2. As is the case throughout the whole building, it blends into the environment thanks to the use of its colours: brown (land), green (the countryside) and blue (the sky).
The Convention Centre also has a 'chamber hall' (with a seating capacity of 275 in an area of 283 m2), ideal for conferences, music and theatre.
