During Holy Week Plasencia holds one of the most important exhibitions of religious imagery in Extremadura.
Plasencia Holy Week, which was already documented in the 18th century is replete with unforgettable images as the majority of its processions pass around the monumental centre of the city. The highlights of the processions of images carried by the brotherhoods in the capital of the Jerte Valley are when they pass in front of the cathedral, through the Jewish Quarter or through the Adarve streets.
Easter week in Plasencia has earned the Festivity of Tourist Interest in Extremadura designation thanks to its valuable images and the performance of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ in the historic quarter.
Stations of penance that take place from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. A week of devotion and faith, which is at its height on Good Friday, when the "crosses" procession takes place, and on Easter Sunday in the morning, when Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Pasión meets María Santísima del Rosario de su Mayor Dolor.
The Passion Week in Plasencia combines devotion and faith, as a result of popular religiousness and tradition, and is in fact the oldest religious celebration in Extremadura. You can find out more about it at the Church of Santo Domingo or of San Vicente Ferrer, which houses a permanent exhibition of the city's brotherhood union.
