This municipality lies in the north of Cáceres province, within the community of municipalities known as Trasierra-Tierras de Granadilla and bordered by the districts of Las Hurdes, Sierra de Gata and Valle de Ambro
Oliva de Plasencia boasts many historic and cultural sites, including: the ruins of the Roman city of Cáparra (outside the town itself), the parish church of San Blas, the 19th-century town hall and the 17th-century palace of the Count of Oliva. It also has a milestone from the Silver Route, which dates back to the time of Roman Emperor Adrian.
The parish church of San Blas (Saint Blaise) is one of the area's most outstanding buildings. Dating back to the 16th century, it houses a fabulous Baroque altarpiece. The church tower was built in three sections.
When visiting this quaint town, be sure to explore the “Camino de Cáparra” (Cáparra Way), which takes you through dehesa pastureland to the ruined Roman city of Cáparra. -
