Throughout its history the Nogales Castle has suffered from the advances of the French and the Portuguese. It has been restored to all its splendour.
Located in Nogales in the province of Badajoz, this 15th century medieval fortress stands on top of a small hill and its function is purely defensive. For this reason, the most prominent element is the keep surrounded by a wall. It was very important during the confrontations with the French and the Portuguese.
The passage of time left its mark on this fortress, which needed to be restored to return it to its former splendour. It was built of masonry except for the corners which are of local dressed stone. Furthermore, it has three floors in the interior covered by a ribbed vault and the tops of the walls are finished off with brick ledges which hold the tower battlements. -
