The Church of the Santa María Co-Cathedral in Cáceres, declared an Historic-Artistic Monument and World Heritage Site, is the most important one in the city and it also seems to be the oldest as it dates back to 13th century, although it was completed several centuries later. Its museum exhibits some liturgical pieces, a collection of sacred vessels, images, religious paintings and vestments, amongst other sacred and cult objects.
It is precisely the sacristy, which you access through a beautiful plateresque door, which houses this cathedral museum. And also the grave of Francisco de Godoy, Pizarro's captain.
There are, likewise, some liturgical items exhibited in the Santa Lucía chapel, which you access by a staircase from the sacristy itself. The sculpture of the saint, an old prayer book and a collection of clerical vestments are some of the items on display.
