These walls have witnessed decisive events in Spain's history. This was the place where Francisco Franco was proclaimed Head of State, for example.
The medieval building of Los Golfines de Arriba Palace is situated in the monumental ensemble of the city of Cáceres. This house-fort, built in the 14th century, was commissioned when Isabel de la Cerda married García de Golfín.
As you will see, there were originally four towers but only three are still standing. You can also still see the coats of arms of the noble family from which the building gets its name. You can visit the keep, built in 1513. As it is private property it has been preserved in good condition. It has played an important part in the history of Spain because it was the place Francisco Franco chose to establish his headquarters, and he was proclaimed Head of State here before his official proclamation in Burgos.
