The waters and environs of the Gabriel y Galán reservoir are perfect living spaces for singular species.
In the north of the province of Cáceres, on the edges of the municipalities of Caminomorisco, Casar de Palomero, Guijo de Granadilla, Mohedas de Granadilla, Pesga and Zarza de Granadilla, you will find this wetland rich in concentrations of wintering common cranes and above all, a refuge for an endangered bird - the black tern.
Outstanding from amongst the reptiles in the area is the Mediterranean turtle, and the fish most commonly found in the reservoir waters are the Iberian barbel, the spined loach, the calandino (Squalius alburnoides) and the boga (Leporinus obtusidens).
