The municipality of Santa Cruz de la Sierra in the province of Cáceres contains one of the many castros or fortified villages found on the Iberian Peninsula.
In the municipality of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, in Cáceres province, time seems to have stopped. Its structure is that of a castro a fortified village, as you will be able to see in its small town centre which still preserves vestiges of the different civilisations that have passed through this region: pre-Celtic, Celtiberian, Lusitanian, Vettone, Arab and Roman.
Other attractions can be find in the form of the numerous stone crosses distributed around the village and its pretty main square, as well as the church of the Augustinian convent, the parish church of Vera Cruz and the house of the count, related to the colonisation of America.
