A Festivity of Tourist Interest in Extremadura that signals the opening of the bullfighting season in Spain.
All the top figures from the Spanish bullfighting world come together every year at the beginning of March in Olivenza in Badajoz to take part in an event the importance and significance of which has led it to be declared a Festivity of Tourist Interest in Extremadura.
The Olivenza bull fair is a reference event in the bullfighting world, not only because it is the first event of the national bullfighting year, but because of the top-billing bullfighters it attracts. Prestigious bullfighters, a setting in which many a young novice has become a qualified bullfighter, later going on to reach fame and fortune, and where renowned bull breeders provide a quality animal for such an important bullfighting event.
The fair lasts for 4 days, during the course of which people come to Olivenza from all over Spain, as well as from Portugal, France, Italy and Germany. Everyone, visitors and sector professionals alike, are welcomed to a fiesta where you can not only enjoy watching top bullfighters do their stuff, but where in parallel, as a complementary event to the bullfighting, there is an “Iberian bull fair”.
A large fair ground provides the setting for fair goers to take part in a wide range of activities, such as, debates, exhibitions, bullfighting practice rings and exhibitions. -
