Meetings in Montánchez. Diálogo de Culturas was born in 2005 with the intention of promoting respect and exchange with the peoples of the world and honours the legacy of Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities in this town, located in the south of the province of Cáceres, just in the centre of Extremadura.
The result is a festival that, over the last week of August, offers a programme of music, theatre and dance in the Almohad castle, as well as debate panels, literature, daytime and nigh time walks to visit the natural and historical heritage of Montánchez, as well as its environment and cuisine, comprising workshops for children and traditional and world games, among other activities.
Their organizers, leaded by the City Council, have evidenced that a small town of only 1,800 residents can be a part of the first-tier cultural circuit.
Each edition starts by awarding the prize “Diálogo de Culturas”, which has been awarded to individuals and institutions such as Federico Mayor Zaragoza, Nùria Espert, Pablo Guerrero, Jesús Sánchez Adalid, Fundación Yehudi Menuhin, Instituto Cervantes, Mensajeros de la Paz and Festival de la Mar de Músicas in Cartagena, among others.
