Discover mining activity, which has had an important role throughout history in this area, visiting the inside of the Costanaza mine.
Within the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark, we find this mine (it is precisely one of the Geopark's geosites), which has been abandoned since 1946 and was one of the most important sources of raw materials for the manufacture of phosphate fertilisers in Europe for part of the 20th century.
The Costanaza mine forms part of the Minas de Logrosán project, that allows these spaces to be restored so that we can learn about the richness of mining heritage in this area, which has been mined since prehistoric times.
During your visit to the mine, you can observe different buildings like the fertiliser factory, the fine grain factory, the storehouses or the headframe. Also, during your visit to the Pozo María galleries at the same mine, you will see how the bed was formed and leftovers from human activity after extracting the materials from the mines. -
