Construction of the castle of Almaraz, a fortress near the village of the same name in Cáceres province, began in the 14th century. Of the original building only the keep remains, and it has been declared a historical Spanish heritage site. The remains of the castle that have survived until the present are privately owned, and the land around it is used as a farm.
