  • A religious order now inhabits this house in Cáceres which once belonged to the noble Solís lineage.

Strolling down Callejón de la Monja, in the heart of the historic centre of Cáceres, you will come across the Casa del Sol, also known as Casa de los Solís. According to legend the family obtained their title of nobility for managing to take a message to queen Isabel the Catholic in a single day by riding from Cáceres to Tordesillas.

On one of its corners, amongst other ornaments, you can see the family coat of arms, comprised of a sun with the rays bitten off by eight snake heads. It is crowned by a helmet and the whole is framed by an alfiz, including the round machicolation and the semicircular-arch doorway.

Nowadays this 16th-century palace is run by the Padres de la Preciosa Sangre.
