This town lies in the very heart of the Valle del Jerte, the centre of which has been declared a Site of Historic-Artistic interest.
The centre of this town in the north of Extremadura is well worth a visit, if not for its church of San Miguel Arcángel alone. A synagogue previously stood on this site which was a royal gift to the townspeople in the 15th century.
A place where natural surroundings are also worth of note. The Jerte river flows through the town, leaving natural pools such as the Picaza and the Pesquerona, among others, as it follows its course. The aforementioned serve as open-air bathing spots for the locals to refresh themselves in the hot summer months, as well as a place to relax, have fun and spend quality time with family and friends.
To which several activities can also be added that you can well pursue and which should not be missed. For example, a visit to the water interpretation centre. If you happen to visit in the festival season, don't miss out on the Burning of Judas, an important local fiesta held on Easter Saturday consisting of a burning of a straw effigy of Judas Iscariot. -
