This town is situated in the province of Cáceres, in the heart of the district of Las Villuercas, and it holds one of the most valuable gems of religious architecture – the Church of Santa Florentina.
The origins of this municipality surrounded by nature and vegetation go back to the Neolithic period, and many different people have settled in these lands and left remains with a great historic and cultural value.
The main archaeological remains here include cave paintings, Celtic forts (or "castros"), Roman bridges and other pieces of architecture, the ancient mines, and the books and documents that can be found today in the municipal archive.
You can also come and discover the treasure of Berzocana, which comprises golden torques found by a local shepherd in 1961, and the relics of San Fulgencio and Santa Florentina, found at the end of the Moorish period in this area, and which can be seen today in the Church of Santa Florentina.
Other places not to be missed are the interpretation centre for the history of Las Villuercas, which used to be the Berzocana archaeological museum, and the most important buildings, such as the Parish Church of San Juan Bautista, a national monument.
For those who love history and nature, the best place to go is the "Sierra de Berzocana" park, offering leisure, nature and art. You can go hiking, cycling or horse riding and discover the local flora and fauna. There are also caves with cave paintings, and megalithic monuments in the park.
And the Huertos de San Juan botanical garden, situated at an altitude of nearly 1,000 metres, recreates different natural ecosystems. -
