The impressive Arguijuelas de Abajo Castle lies on the Silver Way (Vía de la Plata) and has been declared a Cultural Heritage Site.
Its construction dates from the middle of the 15th to the 16th centuries by order of Don Francisco de Ovando “el Viejo” ("the Elder") together with the castle of Arguijuelas de Arriba. The walls and exterior watchtowers were added later, during the 19th century. Within the complex you will find a walled garden, terraces, a pond, an olive grove, a chapel and outhouses for livestock.
